Shade & Comfort

Shade, seating and climate-responsive elements planned around the sun, wind and daily use of the garden.

SHADE PLANNED AROUND THE SUN, SEASON AND USE

Outdoor comfort depends on where shade falls, how heat accumulates, how air moves, which surfaces remain exposed and when each area will be used. We study those conditions before locating pergolas, trees and seating.

The solution may combine fixed and adjustable shade, planting, permeable structures and suitable exterior materials. Where passive measures are insufficient, compatible support systems can be incorporated according to the site and intended use.

Pergolas &

Structures

Pergolas and shade structures positioned according to solar orientation, views, wind exposure, drainage and their connection with the architecture.

Natural

Shade

Trees selected and positioned according to mature canopy, roots, water needs, seasonal shade and proximity to buildings and services.

Outdoor

Lounges

Seating areas arranged around shade, breeze, views and circulation, with materials and upholstery suited to exterior use.

Climate

Comfort

Passive shade and ventilation prioritised, with compatible support systems added where the site, intended use and maintenance justify them.

Useful shade is designed for the hours when the space is actually used.

What the project considers:

✓ Solar path and seasonal shade

✓ Wind direction, airflow and exposed areas

✓ Use, occupancy, furniture and circulation

✓ Materials, drainage, maintenance and technical requirements

Comfort comes from the relationship between shade, air movement, materials and use.
